ACTIVE VOICE SENTENCES
- indicate that the subject of verb is acting

The dog( subject ) is doing the jumping (verb )
REASON TO USE ACTIVE VOICE SENTENCES
---> Most writer prefer to use active voice because it is more direct.
---> Less awkward and clearly states relationship between subject and action
PASSIVE VOICE SENTENCES
- the subject and object flip-flop
- subject becomes the passive recipient of the action
- example
> The boy was jumped on by the dog
Boy (subject) was being jumped on (verb)
REASON TO USE PASSIVE VOICE SENTENCES
---> Use when the agent ( doer of an action ) is obvious, unknown or unnecessary
* Her purse was stolen
---> Use when the agent is known but the speaker/writer does not want to mention it
* A mistake has been made
---> Use when the agent is very general such as people or somebody
* English is spoken here
---> Use when the speaker wants to emphasize a result or receiver of the action instead of the performer.
* The professor was hit by three snowballs
- Three snowballs hit the professor.
After Miss Zu finished give us an explanation, she divided us into two groups consisting of 13 students. We want to play Active and Passive - Voice Race Game. Each member from a group will get one slip of paper with an active-voice and passive-voice sentence written on it. The group who first finished changes their sentences into passive voice wins. (^_^)
We continue our lesson with learn about body paragraph. Before that, we have already finished do an introduction paragraph, then we proceed on body paragraph and conclusion to complete our essay. :)
BODY PARAGRAPH
Purpose - Support main idea in thesis statement by breaking it down into smaller ideas or subtopics. Ideas in your paragraphs should relate back to the thesis statement.
Form - Most paragraphs contain between five to ten sentences.
Key Features ::
A Topic Sentence
~ Most important because it expresses the main idea of the paragraph.
REMEMBER ! There are several things that you need to remember when writing topic sentences !
1) Topic sentences are always complete sentence.
-example ::
* There are many strategies that you can use to help you learn a new language.
2) Contains the topic of paragraph and a controlling idea.
-example ::
* Companies need to develop more efficient form of energy ( main idea ) such as solar heating panels. ( Controlling idea )
-Be Careful ! Make sure that your topic sentence does not contain too many controlling ideas !
Supporting Sentences
~Sentence that relate to the ideas in the topic sentence.
Concluding Sentences
~Last sentence in a paragraph
~Remind the reader of the main points of a paragraph
~Leave the reader with something to think about in relation to the topic
Unity
~Good paragraph have unity.
~Unity means that each sentence in the paragraph is related to the topic sentence.
~Only discuss one main idea.
CONCLUSION
---> Last paragraph in essay
---> Complete the essay and reemphasizes the thesis statement or main idea
---> Technique ::
- Prediction - Talks about what might happen in the future.
- A Recommendation - Often used by a writer after he/she has discussed a problem in an essay.
- A Quotation - A relevant quotation can bring good closure to your essay especially if the quotation is from an expert on the topic in your composition.
